DJ Harvey's reputation as a DJ is such that he is well known throughout the world as an eclectic, balearic, funky, diverse master of the turntables. His record collection is so prestigious that clubbers in Japan have been known to take a photograph of every record he owns so they can pick it up on ebay.

Harvey began his music career as a drummer in New Wave bands throughout the 70s. It wasn't until the advent of Hip Hop culture n the U.K. that he became interested in DJing. The idea of using the turntables as a rhythmic instrument like the drums appealed to Harvey.

Soon Harvey started DJing at local warehouse parties and then moved onto DJing at clubs in London. It was here that he developed his unique style of DJing which encompasses all genres of dance music. Then he brought together some of his Cambridge friends to create the Tonka Sound System and throw monthly parties at the Zap Club in Brighton. They would spin electro, hip hop, and dub.

After creating one of London's premier club nights, Moist Harvey became the resident DJ at the Ministry of Sound. Harvey brought famous New York DJs to play in London like Larry Levan and Tony Humphries. By the mid nineties his DJ sets including tracks by artists as diverse as Trouble Funk, Jah Shaka, Cerrone, and the Steve Miller Band.

It was around this time Harvey started doing re-edits on his own label, Black Cock. He did re-edits of Dick Hyman's interpretation of James Brown's "Give It Up, Turn It Loose" and Jimmy Bo Horne's "Is It In." Most of his releases on his Black Cock label go for hundreds of U.S. dollars. After this he started Moton Records, a spin off of the name Motown Records. On this label he continued doing re-edits by artists like George Duke and Billy Paul. Harvey has also done numerous remixes for everything from Jamiroquai, the Brand New Heavies and, the Police.

He is currently DJing at his weekly club night in Hawaii at his thirtyninehotel that also serves as an art gallery during the day. He continues to DJ nine hour sets at his Harvey Sarcastic Disco Night in LA a few times a year. Harvey is currently working with his new group, Map of Africa. They hope to release an album soon after releasing many collectible singles.
